Jump Rope Gazers

“How do you come up with song titles?”, I asked. “Well, I just look at all the lyrics and pick out a line.”

Pithy diary-like confessionals rendered in boisterous indie rock has always been a strong suit of The Beths’ lead songwriter, Elizabeth Stokes. When they asked me to design the vinyl packaging for their second album, I knew I wanted to present the intimacy of her lyrics in a way that was distinctively The Beths’.

Design Solution

Handwriting as typography to convey intimacy and the indie sensibilities that The Beths have built their music around.

Iconography that paired each song with a hand-drawn illustration. Each side of the vinyl disc had five icons corresponding to the songs that appeared on that side.
